SOS Faim first collaborated with La Florida cooperative in 1995. This small coffee producer cooperative from the ‘Selva Central’, the semi-tropical forest of central Peru, was emerging from a crisis due to the significant presence of the Shining Path movement in the  region. Several of its leaders had been killed and infrastructure destroyed. In the process of rebuilding, it required a guarantee in order to obtain credit from a local bank so that it could collect its members’ harvest and wholesale the product.
