Livestock is a leading sector and often represents over a third of the agricultural gross domestic product in the Sahelian zones. However, some sectors are being put to the test. Despite the economic stakes, political support is not yet at the level required. Livestock on average represents 10% of agricultural expenditure and therefore maximum 1% of total state budgets. In addition, the focus is mostly on so-called modern, industrial breeding.
