AGRI+

Mechanism for Financing Family Farming in Burkina Faso and Mali

Designed and implemented by SOS Faim, the Agri+ scheme is an initiative to address the lack of access to finance for family farms, which still represent the vast majority of stakeholders in the agricultural sector of West Africa. This scheme, which follows the FAIR (Rural Initiatives Support Fund) pilot program that was implemented in Mali from 2009 to 2013, is designed to last 7 years (2016 to 2022), thanks to the funding by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE)

Agri+’s priority objective is to develop an offer that addresses the family farms’ need for financing in terms of agriculture and livestock farming. This is why the scheme includes two financing tools: a guarantee fund and a credit line. It also includes a training and follow-up program, the aim of which is to strengthen the skills and strategic positioning of stakeholders involved in agricultural financing.

Agri+ was designed in close collaboration with the Cooperation Department of the MAEE and builds on the expertise developed by SOS Faim and its partners in West Africa in the agricultural sector. The project is in line with Burkina Faso’s and Mali’s sectoral policies and also with the bilateral cooperation between Luxemburg and these two countries.
